The Star Movie Shop is the only company in the world which sells unedited scenes for film students to learn how to edit a dramatic conversation. Because of unresolved rights issues, we sell the disks only to serious film students. These disks are not available to the general public. To start, we offer a super simple scene disk for $20 to give you an introduction to film editing and film scoring. This is the first disk which you must buy. Once you have edited and scored this scene, we will tell you more about the Editing Workshop disks from the Star Movie Shop.

Learning to edit a conversation If you want to become a filmmaker of dramatic motion pictures, you must learn how to edit a conversation. Conversations are the most important element in a motion picture so film students need to see how this is done. Careful: There are different kinds of film editing. Editing a conversation is different from editing anything else. That is why these disks are so important to film students who want to make narrative motion pictures. Editing a conversation is based on the rhythm of the dialog. All other types of film editing are based on the picture. This is a major difference -- audio vs. image. Once you have edited a conversation based on the best sounding dialog (which is not necessarily the best picture), you lock the audio and roll the picture edits to find the best visual transition. Rolling the picture edits is an easy way to create "L-Cuts". This are called "L-cuts" because the edit in the timeline looks like an "L". Wow! This is not rocket science. This is easy! An L-cut shows either the listener's reaction or shows the listener's anticipation. Also, L-cuts can be used to emphasize one actor over the other. This makes L-cuts a powerful tool for filmmakers. That is why learning about L-cuts is so important. |
Requirements |
Film Editing RequirementsThe film editing disks require Apple's Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere. Apple's Final Cut Express will work with some limitations. (It will not edit at 24 fps.) Film Scoring RequirementsAll film scoring project are designed for Apple's GarageBand and Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra. More advanced MIDI systems should also work however GarageBand is the easiest and often the best way for filmmakers to create their own film scores. The film dailies on most disks require Apple's QuickTime Pro. Some dailies require version 7. |
